About a thousand Israelis, Fiipinos, Jews, and Christians participated in a demonstration of support for Israel on October 22 in the Philippines.
A convoy of vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles with Israeli flags, and blue and white balloons paraded from Welcome Rotonda and through the main streets of Metro Manila, and ended its route at the Philippines-Israel Friendship Marker in Quezon City. “Kidnapped” notices with the faces of the Israeli abductees were pasted on the vehicles.
The motorcade was followed by a program titled “Israel You Are Not Alone,” with participants converging in solidarity with the State of Israel.
Earlier demonstrations of support for Israel include a prayer gathering by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ) Philippines and the Jesus Reigns Ministries on October 14 at the Philippines-Israel Friendship Marker. This sacred monument stands in remembrance of then President Manuel Quezon’s noble act of providing safe refuge for 1,500 Holocaust survivors. The prayer gathering was also attended by various churches from Metro Manila.
A circle of surfers came together on October 16 to remember and honor the fallen Israelis, particularly the innocent children who perished in the merciless attack orchestrated by Hamas. In a touching ceremony, Siargao surfers gathered around to offer a minute of silence followed by a Kaddish reading (mourner’s prayer).
Further, the Quezon City Government recently commenced lighting up the Quezon Memorial Shrine in blue.
The Israel Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, headed by President Yoray Ofek and the Filipino-Jewish community also showed support for Israel by praying, lighting candles, and offering flowers on October 19 at the Philippines-Israel Friendship Marker.
There will also be a solidarity church service organized by the ICEJ Philippines on October 24, and an awareness and solidarity campaign by the Israel Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines on October 26.
