The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has been providing emergency observation and satellite images of the situation in southern Mindanao following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the region.
The images are taken by JAXA’s Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2/4 (ALOS-2/4) through the international cooperation framework of Sentinel Asia. Â

According to the Information and Culture Center of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, Japan will continue to work closely with the Philippines to support its early recovery from the damages caused by the earthquake.
Sentinel Asia, established in 2006 by the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF), is an international framework for disaster management in which images from earth observation satellites and other sources are provided to each other in the event of a disaster. Led by Japan, with JAXA serving as the secretariat, the APRSAF is composed of 127 space and disaster management organizations. Â
