Senator Erwin Tulfo urged the Senate to carefully review international treaties before concurring in their ratification to ensure Filipino workers receive tangible benefits.
The call was made during a recent public hearing conducted by the Committee on Foreign Relations on the proposed Philippine–Cambodia Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA).
Tulfo noted the Philippines had entered into 44 Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements worldwide, including seven with fellow Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. He stressed such policies are important to keep the country globally competitive.
“The primary objective of this agreement is simple: to prevent double taxation and further deepen trade between our country and Cambodia,” Tulfo said.
He added the Senate must ensure the treaty would strengthen the economy without reducing tax revenues.
