Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel began a landmark diplomatic tour of the Pacific region, starting in the Philippines. She was received by the Embassy of Israel in the Philippines led by Ambassador Dana Kursh.
During a press briefing in Manila, she highlighted the longstanding ties between Israel and the Philippines, citing shared values, development cooperation, and historical connections.
Expressing deep gratitude for the Philippines’ support during World War II, Deputy Foreign Minister Haskel said, “The Filipino people offered shelter to Jews during one of history’s darkest times. We will forever remember that.”
She also recognized the Filipino workers in Israel, known for their care, hard work, and dedication. According to her, they are vital contributors to Israeli society and considered a part of Israelis’ extended family.
Turning to current regional issues, Haskel addressed the humanitarian situation in Gaza and ceasefire violations by Hamas. She emphasized Israel’s pursuit of peace through diplomatic efforts, while calling for the disarmament of militant groups and greater international accountability.
She also acknowledged the impact of the October 7 attacks on foreign nationals, including Filipino workers, and noted Israel’s ongoing support for victims through medical, psychological, and financial assistance.

The short visit concluded with a dinner with the Jewish community in the Philippines where discussions centered on the importance of education in strengthening the community’s future.
The Deputy Foreign Minister’s six-day Pacific journey will continue to also strengthen Israel’s ties with Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand.
