United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai will travel to Manila, Republic of the Philippines on April 16-18, and Tokyo, Japan on April 18-20 as part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to strengthen ties with key partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
On April 17-18, Ambassador Tai will meet with Philippines’ senior government officials and several of her trade and economic counterparts, including Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual, Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, and Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.
In addition, Ambassador Tai will meet with business leaders and union representatives. She will also meet with U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson.
Throughout these meetings, Ambassador Tai will emphasize the importance of strengthening the U.S.-Philippines bilateral trade relationship and discuss the ongoing Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) negotiations that aim to create resilient, sustainable and inclusive trade across the region.Â
On April 19-20, Ambassador Tai will then meet with senior government of Japan counterparts to further build upon recent achievements in the U.S.-Japan trade partnership and discuss the ongoing IPEF negotiations. She will also meet with U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel.
