Senator Sonny Angara received on May 13 at the Senate a delegation of Singaporean civil servants who are visiting the Philippines for a three-day study tour.
Angara spoke about the Philippines-Singapore relations and the importance of evolving a country’s political systems and structures to fit the citizens’ needs. He also answered questions from the delegation on various issues faced by the Philippines.
After the briefing with the Senator, the Singapore delegation observed the Senate session and visited the Senate Museum.
At the plenary hall, the Singaporean delegates were welcomed by Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri who commended the Civil Service College of Singapore for providing them the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the broader regional context by actually visiting neighboring countries like the Philippines.
Zubiri said he would want the Singaporean delegation to “learn a great deal about the Senate’s function and role in the Philippine democracy.”
“Just last month, I received the Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and expressed our gratitude to him for upholding the strong friendship between the Philippines and Singapore. I am certain that your delegation’s visit will undoubtedly strengthen the bond of mutual trust and understanding between our two countries,” Zubiri said.
