President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., together with his economic team led by Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual recently met in Berlin, Germany with Siemens AG President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Roland Busch, to discuss the company’s forthcoming initiatives and collaborative projects in the Philippines.
During the meeting, Secretary Pascual highlighted the Philippines as a major data center location in the ASEAN region as it hosts several global hyperscalers for their data storage requirements including Facebook and Google. He added Siemens may explore this area by leveraging the country’s data center capabilities for their digital services.
For its part, Siemens, through its local subsidiary Siemens Healthcare Inc. (Siemens Healthineers), disclosed its plans to establish the Siemens Healthineers Training Center which is a facility envisioned to respond to the growing need for advanced healthcare services within the ASEAN region. The facility is also expected to offer advanced healthcare imaging and cancer care solutions.
In addition, Siemens Healthineers aims to inaugurate an Innovation Think Tank to drive innovation in the country in collaboration with the Philippine government and the local academe.
Apart from investments, the Philippine delegation also discussed the support of Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA) for the EU-PH Free Trade Agreement.
As the Chairman of the APA, Dr. Bosch also engaged with President Marcos Jr. to advocate for an enhanced bilateral trade and investment between Germany and the Philippines.
The APA is an organization representing German business entities that underscore its support for the EU-PH Free Trade Agreement as this will open up new areas for economic cooperation.
Further, the discussions explored avenues for collaboration in technical upskilling initiatives, and the identification of key sectors for economic partnership, particularly in digital services, renewable energy, infrastructure, and e-mobility.
Siemens’ commitment to the Philippines is seen reflecting its presence in the country since 1894, marked by contributions in telecommunications, energy, mobility, and smart building technologies.
Siemens is a German multinational conglomerate corporation and the largest industrial manufacturing company in Europe headquartered in Munich with a presence worldwide, including the Philippines. In particular, Siemens has participated in the development and operations of Manila’s LRT1 and LRT2.Â
