Senate President Juan Miguel F. Zubiri welcomed Ireland’s first Resident Ambassador to the Philippines William Carlos at the Senate Ceremonial Hall on August 9, 2023.
The Ambassador highlighted strengthening multilateral relationships is important more than ever, and despite the distance, the Philippines and Ireland have a lot of commonalities in terms of history, culture, and values.
Both sides discussed ways to cultivate bilateral ties, including agricultural cooperation with the Philippines as top importer of Irish beef, people-to-people relations given the rapid growth of the Filipino community in Ireland, as well as establishing future inter-parliamentary collaboration.
They also briefly discussed the situation in the West Philippine Sea where both countries committed to uphold international law.
