Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual highlighted the significance of strengthening the food industry during the 2023 Hybrid National Food Fair Opening Ceremony on July 12 at the Megatrade Halls 1-3 of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.
The DTI Secretary expressed confidence on the Filipino cuisine for starting to enter the global food value chain as more locally made products gain immense popularity in the international market.
During his speech, Secretary Pascual mentioned the National Food Fair will provide the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) a greater market access to the global value chain.
More than 250 MSMEs are featured at the physical location of the ongoing food fair; while 200 other participants attended through e-commerce platform, Lazada.
The event is aimed at providing an avenue for MSMEs to explore new markets, improve product quality, and produce innovative food products with excellent packaging that can meet global quality standards.
In closing, Secretary Pascual explained the National Food Fair is an effective strategy for promoting food products and growing the business of food entrepreneurs, particularly since more than half of MSMEs belong to the food sector. He cited the event is vital to the Department’s aim of promoting digitalization in industries, particularly for MSMEs.
Organized by the Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion, in partnership with the Regional Operations Group, the National Food Fair will run until July 16, 2023.
