The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and Volleyball World recently announced the selection of the Philippines as the host country for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in 2025, following Senator Pia Cayetano’s final pitch at the FIVB headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Next year’s tournament will run from September 12-28 and will feature world’s top 32 volleyball teams vying for the championship title.
In the final stage of the Philippine bid, Senator Pia Cayetano cited the most watched and largest ever Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2019, with 56 sports and 529 events. She also cited the 2023 World Cup where the Philippines tallied a crowd of 38,115 spectators during the opening ceremony at the Philippine Arena, beating the previous record of 32,616 in 1994 World Cup in Canada.
“The hosting of these two major events have allowed us to showcase to the world our Filipino brand of hospitality,” Cayetano said.
“In the Philippines, everything is personal. And when we host the World Championship, it will be a personal experience for everyone who attends. The Filipino fans will make sure that the players and the entire delegation feel welcome, as you have seen in our previous hostings. I look forward to the stories we will get to share. These are stories that are awaiting to be told,” she added.
