“Princess,” directed by Roberto De Paolis, was chosen by Filipino and Thai audiences as the best film at the 12th edition of the Moviemov Italian Film Festival held from March 27-31, 2023.
The ‘Under30s,’ on the other hand, chose “Ghiaccio,” directed by Fabrizio Moro alongside Alessio De Leonardis.
Moviemov is an itinerant film showcase aimed at cultural and commercial promotion of the ‘Italian Cinema Now’ overseas.
This year, Moviemov presented seven films for a virtual theater showcase to audiences from the Philippines and Thailand.
The Asian audience and participants include students from the University of the Philippines – Piccola Italia (UP Piccola Italia) and University of the Philippines Euro-Filipino Understanding & Relations Organization (UPEuro), MINT College, University of San Carlos, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, De La Salle University, and many others. They are program graduates of the Masterclass on Great Italian Cinema conducted by journalist and film critic Chiara Nicoletti.
The film showcase was followed by talkbacks (virtual meetings) on March 31 with the casts and filmmakers, namely: actor Vinicio Marchioni, with director Alessio De Leonardis and producer Francesca Verdini for “Ice”; actor Leonardo Maltese for “The Lord of the Ants”; actor Maurizio Lombardi for “Princess”; actors Emanuele Linfatti and Matteo Creatini, with producer Luigi Chimenti for ”Margini”; and Moviemov President Goffredo Bettini.
This year’s Moviemov reached an audience of 6,500 through screenings and meetings, and gained over 130,000 contacts.
Moviemov Italian Film Festival is organized by ACPLAYTOWNROMA since 2020, with support from the Directorate General for Cinema of the Italian Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Italian Embassies, the Philippine-Italian Association (PIA), and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
