When nurtured in a supportive environment, entrepreneurs flourish.
Take the case of Marie Claire Bince, the entrepreneur behind Purple Craft and an embodiment of resilience and innovation.
Marie Claire started Purple Craft CDO with a focus on scrapbooking. However, she had to quickly adapt and reinvent the business when the pandemic hit in 2020.
“With the lockdown, we became resilient.” Marie Claire shared.
“We created takeout boxes. It wasn’t easy, as we had to work from home using only basic tools. Despite these challenges, we found a way to keep the business going.”
Marie Claire’s determination to innovate allowed her business to survive and grow during tough times. That’s when she decided to study the art and science of doing business and sought help from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Eventually, she joined the DTI’s Enhanced Business Learning Session (EBLS) for entrepreneurs in 2024.
EBLS is a three-month short business course with one-on-one coaching in marketing, production, operations, organization/human resource, and financial management. It is one of the DTI Misamis Oriental’s initiatives to enable businesses in Cagayan de Oro City.
“Joining EBLS helped me improve how I manage my business, especially in handling finances and staffing. I realized I still had a lot to learn and improve,” she said.
Through the program, she gained valuable insights that helped her refine operations, expand her market, and improve her branding.
Enthusiastic to learn new things, Marie Claire also enrolled in DTI’s Kapatid Mentor Me (KMME) Program Batch 18.
KMME is a flagship program of the DTI that is designed to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to scale up their businesses through mentorship.
“Now, joining the KMME program, I’m hoping to grow my business and build more connections,” she added.
Having been guided from experienced mentors, Marie Claire is now focusing on expanding Purple Craft CDO and in improving the efficiency of her business.
Her journey reflects the spirit of this year’s National Women’s Month Celebration with the theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sector, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.”

Her story is proof that with the right support, determination, and willingness to learn, women entrepreneurs can overcome challenges and grow their businesses.
“Challenges are part of the journey. Every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow.” Marie Claire said.
“Believe in yourself and your vision. I offer everything to the Lord. As the saying goes, ‘Place all your worries in God’s hands, and trust that He will provide for your business.’”
