The Governments of Japan and the Philippines have recently released the commemorative logo for the 2026 celebrations of friendship between the two countries, also marking the 70th anniversary of the normalization of their diplomatic relations.
Bearing the theme “Weaving the Future Together: Peace, Prosperity, Possibilities,” the logo submitted by Edmon Fuerte from Baguio City was selected among the entries in a logo-making competition opened for public months ago.
Fuerte’s logo entry features ropes inspired by the Japanese Shimenawa rope and the Filipino Abaca (Manila hemp) rope. He explained the intertwined ropes is representative of the robust ties and ever-strengthening friendship between Japan and the Philippines.
The logo design also incorporates the colors of both nations’ flags, including the elements of the sun from the Japanese flag and the three stars and the sun from the Philippine flag.
Fuerte, being the competition winner, is set to receive one round-trip business class flight ticket between the Philippines (Manila) and Japan (Haneda), courtesy of Japan Airlines (JAL).
Aside from serving as the official symbol of 2026 Philippines-Japan Friendship Year, the winning logo will appear throughout commemorative events planned for next year.
