Upon the request of the Philippine government, Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) utilized its C-130HÂ transport aircraft participating in the JP-PH Bilateral Exercise “Doshin Bayanihan 5-25” to assist in delivering relief goods to affected communities in the northern part of Cebu Island following the earthquake on September 30.
This was confirmed by Japan Defense Minister Nakatani Gen on a recent video teleconference with Philippine National Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro.
Doshin Bayanihan 5-25, a five-day bilateral training conducted at the Philippine Air Force base located at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, is set to conclude today, October 11.
The training was the inaugural application of the Japan-Philippines Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA), which officially entered into force on September 11 this year.
The operation serves as a prime example demonstrating the dual functionality of the RAA, not only facilitating joint training and exercise scenarios but also in actual and effective disaster response. It is expected to enhance the interoperability between the forces of both countries.Â
During their teleconference, Minister Nakatani and Secretary Teodoro welcomed the application of the RAA, and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the full and effective utilization of the RAA as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
The officials also committed to continue working closely together to contribute to maritime security, as well as regional stability and peace.
