Ambassador ENDO Kazuya led the National Industry Dialogue for a Responsible and Sustainable Aquaculture Supply Chain in the Philippines.
The two-day event, held on October 27-28 in Makati City, is part of the Japan-funded Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Supply Chains (RISSC) Project of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
“Japan is proud to be among the largest voluntary contributors to the ILO for the Asia-Pacific region, having been implementing technical cooperation in the labor sector for over 50 years. Today’s discussions among stakeholders can foster an improved quality of life for workers in aquaculture. As a key Philippine industry, better practices in this sector are sure to drive more sustainable growth for the entire Philippine economy,” Ambassador Endo said.
In the subsequent session, Embassy of Japan First Secretary Suzuki Yuki discussed the expansion of social protection for vulnerable workers, highlighting examples and best practices from Japan.
The dialogue was aimed at increasing the productivity and sustainable development of the Philippine fishing industry by promoting decent work and protecting the dignity of workers.
Also in attendance were Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma, Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr., UN Resident Coordinator in the Philippines Arnaud Peral, and ILO Country Office for the Philippines Director Khalid Hassan.
