The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) destroyer JS OONAMI participated in a two-day multilateral joint exercise “Sama-Sama 2025” after it arrived recently at the Port of Manila.
Derived from the Tagalog word “sama-sama,” meaning “together,” this annual exercise is co-hosted by the United States Navy and the Philippine Navy.
Following the vessel’s port call, Commanding Officer of JS OONAMI Commander Iio Hiromasa paid courtesy calls to the Philippine Navy Headquarters and the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines.
The JMSDF has taken part in this exercise since 2019 and remains firmly committed to deepening defense cooperation with all participating countries. Japan stands resolute in working with its partners to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific, anchored in peace and the rule of law.
