Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya led the recent Space Economy Co-Creation Symposium hosted by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA).
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Endo welcomed Japan and the Philippines’ long-standing cooperation in space, citing numerous collaborative projects and initiatives. These include the Philippines’ Diwata and Maya series satellites that were developed and launched in cooperation with JAXA and Japanese universities; emergency observation and satellite image sharing by JAXA and other space agencies through Sentinel-Asia, an international platform for disaster response; and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s meeting with JAXA during his visit to Osaka, Japan in June 2025.
Ambassador Endo also expressed his optimism for further cooperation between JAXA and PhilSA in space-related industries.
While presentations during the symposium centered around space-related fields, discussions included topics on carbon stocks, maritime observation, disaster risk reduction, water resources management, satellite manufacturing, and launch services.
The event was attended by more than 200 participants from government agencies, the private sector, and the academe from the Philippines and Japan.
