Nine Filipino artists are bound to London to participate in the leading Asian contemporary art fair, FOCUS, from October 16-19 at the Saatchi Gallery, Duke Of York’s HQ, King’s Road in London.
The art fair is set to welcome some of the most talented creatives in Philippine contemporary art whose works present a collective yet also nuanced expression of the multifaceted Filipino identity.
According to the participating artists, the Filipino identity cannot be defined and distilled into a singular concept. Instead, it is something to be celebrated in its complexity even as it continues to evolve, molded by history, the environment, and the everyday experience.
Together, the artists’ works form a tapestry that weaves their respective personal narratives with the collective Filipino memory, its material a mélange of textures, gestures, and subtle expressions that defy easy definition and categorization. This is the idea behind their exhibit for Focus Art Fair London, titled Textures of Identity: Echoes in the Material.
